A New Chapter, Continuing a Tradition of Care
Continuing the Care You Know and Trust
Dear Patients and Friends,
Since 1988, it has been my true privilege and honor to care for you and your families. Serving this practice and the wonderful people and families of Humboldt County and the surrounding communities has been one of the greatest blessings of my professional life. I am deeply grateful for the trust, loyalty, and friendships we have built throughout the years.
As I prepared for retirement, one of my highest priorities has been making sure that my patients continue to receive the same high-quality care, thoughtful philosophy of treatment, and personal attention that have always been at the heart of this practice.
It is with great confidence and sincere pleasure that I introduce Dr. Eugene Usachov, DDS, as the new owner of the practice. Dr. Usachov is a gentle and compassionate dentist who cares for patients of all ages. Growing up in a medical family in Ukraine, he began his professional journey in 2006, and dentistry quickly became his passion. Before becoming a dentist, he also worked as a dental hygienist, which gave him a strong appreciation for preventive care, patient comfort, and the small details that help people feel at ease.
One thing I especially appreciate about Dr. Usachov is the way he explains treatment in a clear, simple, and understandable manner. He wants patients to feel informed and comfortable and to make thoughtful treatment decisions without pressure or feeling rushed.
Dr. Usachov shares a strong commitment to a whole-person approach to dentistry inspired by biological principles. He believes that oral health is closely connected to overall health, and his goal is to support not only healthy smiles, but also the long-term health and well-being of his patients.
I am also pleased to introduce Dr. Usachov’s family — his wife, Olga, and their two wonderful daughters, Alia and Gloria. This is truly a family practice, and together they hope to create a warm and welcoming place where patients feel comfortable, cared for, and at home.
Together, they hope to continue this practice as a true dental home — a place where patients are treated gently, given honest guidance, and cared for with personal attention in a welcoming and relaxed environment.
As I step into retirement, I do so with gratitude and peace of mind, knowing that the future of this practice is bright. Thank you for the trust and friendship you have shown me over the years. It has been an honor to care for you.
With heartfelt appreciation and warm regards,
Dr. George Epperson
Meet Dr. Eugene Usachov
"I am honored to continue the tradition of care that Dr. Epperson built here over many years. His dedication to his patients and thoughtful approach to dentistry created a strong foundation for this practice, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue serving our community with compassion, respect, and personal attention.
At Arcata Bio Dental, I believe dental care should consider the whole person, not just the teeth. My approach is inspired by biological principles and emphasizes minimally invasive care, thoughtful material selection, and careful consideration of biocompatibility whenever clinically appropriate. Each treatment recommendation is based on the individual patient’s oral health needs, preferences, and long-term well-being.
I also believe that trust begins with understanding. I take time to explain my findings, recommendations, available treatment options, and what patients can expect throughout their care. My goal is to help you feel informed and comfortable so that we can make treatment decisions together without pressure or feeling rushed.
Most of all, my family and I hope Arcata Bio Dental feels like a welcoming dental home — a place where you are listened to, treated with kindness, and cared for as an individual. We look forward to getting to know you and your family and building lasting relationships while supporting your oral health and overall well-being."
The Journey Behind the Care
Raised in Ukraine, Dr. Eugene Usachov built his life and career on a foundation of education, discipline, perseverance, and a genuine desire to care for others. He completed school with honors and later earned a Master’s degree in Engineering. Although his early academic path was in engineering, both of his parents were medical doctors, and their example left a lasting influence on him.
Over time, that early connection to healthcare grew into a desire to work more directly with people. Dr. Usachov entered dentistry first as a dental hygienist, graduating with honors at the top of his class. He later continued his education and fulfilled his goal of becoming a dentist, again completing his studies with honors.
Throughout his training and early career, Dr. Usachov combined clinical work with meaningful community service. His service included participating in a dental sealant program for children at Martin Luther King Elementary School, providing restorative and emergency dental care for individuals experiencing homelessness through the Share House shelter, caring for patients living with HIV at a university dental clinic, serving older adults through a mobile dental clinic, and participating in educational workshops for individuals with special needs in retirement communities. These experiences strengthened his sense of purpose and deepened his appreciation for compassionate, respectful, and individualized dental care.
During his student years, Dr. Usachov met his wife, Olga, and together they began building a shared vision of a dental practice centered on integrity, personal attention, and meaningful relationships with patients.
Continuing education remains an important part of his professional life. Dr. Usachov regularly expands his knowledge of current treatment approaches, materials, and techniques and has a particular interest in whole-person dentistry, including biological and integrative principles as they relate to oral health.
Outside the office, he enjoys hiking, traveling, learning, and spending time with his family. For Dr. Usachov, dentistry is not only about treating teeth — it is about building trust, restoring oral health, and caring for each patient as a whole person.
The People Behind
Your Care
Olga - Dental Assistant
Hello, I’m Olga. I was born and raised in Moldova, where my early years shaped a strong appreciation for education, hard work, and perseverance. I later earned a Master’s degree in Economic Sciences. Before becoming involved in dentistry, I spent 20 years working in Moldova’s postal service, where I was honored as Best Mail Carrier in the Country and received the highest professional distinction in the postal service. After moving to the United States, my path took a very different turn. With my husband, Dr. Eugene Usachov, working in dentistry, I became closely involved in Arcata Bio Dental, where I enjoy helping, supporting the team, and creating a warm, family-centered environment for our patients. Outside the office, I am passionate about charitable work, healthy living, nutrition, natural wellness, reading, and writing poetry.
